Den 12 meeting Agenda
1. Select new DENNER 2. New DENNER will lead pledge of allegiance and scout law 3. Announcements: Cave trip, cake decorating 4. Talk time: “In what ways did the first responders you met last month serve as models for good citizenship? What did you learn from their example?” 5. “Who can tell us something about the first responders outing?” 6. “What do you think First Aid really means?” 7. Divide the Webelos into teams of two or three. Present with the following scenarios; give the teams two minutes to huddle and decide on an answer. Then they will share with the rest of the den: 7. A. There has been an accident! What must you do to help? You are told to get help in an emergency. How will you do that? 7. C. Someone asks you to call 911 or the emergency number in your area. What are the main things you must tell the 911 operator? 8. Hurry cases. Divide the Webelos into teams of two or three. The teams will rotate through stations representing the five hurry cases … so they can learn how to cope with each emergency. 8. A - bleeding person 8. B - person having a heart attack 8. C - person’s breathing has stopped 8. D - person having a stroke 8. E - empty pill bottle is found near a person who is vomiting severely 8. F - Someone eating, then suddenly seems unable to speak and raises his hand to his throat 8. G - Accident victim shows symptoms of shock: cool and clammy skin, nausea, and feeling faint. Closing circle. Snacks. Friendship circle. Have each scout mention a way that first responders are helpful or brave. Do at home project: work with families to establish a simple emergency plan: fire, other emergency.

Popcorn: apparently we were #1 in sales for the district. Pack 564 sold more popcorn this year than any other previous year. Huzzah!
Dues: Pack 564 is going to send dues notices to scouts that did not sell $500 of popcorn. If your scout sold less than $500, it will be prorated in some way. Apparently, dues cover the period from January to December, so the dues we paid a few months ago were pro-rated. Also, dues for new scouts are also prorated to be $110 for the first year. Dues for returning scouts is $150 per year. I understand that there are scholarships available for scouts that cannot afford the dues. There is a pack hike which will be occurring on November 20th, I believe. This is not yet posted to the pack website, but this will be another way for scouts that missed the den hike to complete the Webelos Walkabout requirement. Re: Holidays around the world, several things. 1 - the pack will be providing pizza for everyone. 2 - suggestions for the presentation: tri-fold poster board with information about the country; flag for the counter; "100" items to give to other scouts - this could be small treats or beverages, or items (like candles for Diwali). Also, we need a "representative" at our table to make sure other scouts don't grab too many treats. re: the Christmas parade. More details. Looks like we would have to get in line around 230 or so, and the parade actually starts around 4 p.m. There will be a tree lighting at the end and some mention of snow. Pinewood derby has been pushed to February. There was some discussion about a spring trip, which would be an overnight trip. One possibility mentioned was the "lost sea" cavern. I will discuss Harvest for the Hungry details with the scouts that are available to do that. THE OUTDOOR CODE
As an American, I will do my best to - *Be clean in my outdoor manners, *Be careful with fire, *Be considerate in the outdoors, and *Be conversation minded. LEAVE NO TRACE PRINCIPLES FOR KIDS Know before you go Choose the Right Path Trash Your Trash Leave What you Find Be Careful with Fire Respect Wildlife Be Kind to Other Visitors Present were: Bryan, Sophia, Elizabeth, Brooke, Kian, Bodhi, Corey, Mercy, Janet, Emily, Takesha, Tracey, Sharon, Thomas.
Elizabeth agreed to be the "denner for the month." We will do Harvest for the Hungry, will inquire with David re: if we can overlap neighborhoods. Scouts could not decide between Mexico / Italy for the Holiday pack meeting. So the scouts will do some research and we will decide by ? Perhaps the next pack meeting in November? We need more details about participating in the Lilburn Christmas parade. Corey completed the planning for the Webelos Walkabout. Sharon led the scouts in working on memorizing the outdoor conduct code and the leave no trace. We will gather on Saturday October 29th @ 1 p.m. to do a hike at Henderson Park in Tucker GA. Scouts will bring their first aid kit, a snack, a bottle of water, and continue to practice the outdoor conduct code and leave no trace by memory. We will begin the next adventure, which is Cast Iron Chef, at our next Den meeting in November and that will be led by Emily and Slavica. We will submit to the advancement chair that we have completed the Stronger, Faster, higher adventure, by the next Den meeting. Please let me know if your scout needs any assistance completing this. Agenda for Den 12 meeting October 25th
